ICE ESCHATON

Ice blew like shrapnel against the ancient timbers of the Compound, whipped up and blown in by a fierce Northern wind. Hurtful metaphors of the War aside, this wasn't a dream, no, it was a winter storm, an Ice Age Eschaton right here in North Central Texas.

No kidding. The new day dawned and off I went into the icy void, and it was a void. You could stand in the street, fire a canon and hit no one. They were all "sheltering in place" like Justine Trudeau. Not me. No, I went out for a short walk in the ice particle storm.

The Meth shack was was empty and frozen, the Pick 'n Steal? Closed. Go figure, but Alanon was open, right there in the center of town. "What's that, a refill and a pack of Marlboro Lights?" Right on, then back into the bracing wind.

Your Old Pal

I texted a pal in the Old Country, "Look, ESCHATON." He replied, "PALE HORSE."

Stay warm and safe,

ICE ICE Baby

It seems Texas has a new anthem. Thanks 'Horse. (RHSM)

As you were,

ICE

Was it celestial outrage over the British Army's new ad campaign, heavenly anger at the MillSoc antics of Moby and Sean Penn or just our old enemy, the weather, getting back at Texas for failing to pay a tribute tax? Who knows but for whatever reason, ice began to fall from the sky last night.

Apocalypse

It started off as freezing rain, driven by icy blasts of bonesplitting wind that swept the porch as though it were the open bridge of a ship in a winter gale. Then the rain turned to ice, followed by tiny shards of snow.

Sure, if this was Calgary everyone would be heaving a sigh of relief at the warmth of it all but this is Texas and -9+ is something to be conjured with, to say nothing of Sky Ice.

Eschaton

The day dawned to a scene of frozen stasis. Nothing moved except a man and a blue dog on their way to the Pick 'n Steal, which was miraculously open. Then it hit me, an epiphany or eureka moment. Go to Walmart and buy a butt roast and slow cook that porcine beast until it's fall off the bone tender. And that's what I did.

The End of The World

Walmart was empty, you could fire off a canon and not hit anyone, but the pork was there. It's rubbed and ready for the Compound's oven, while we clean weapons, load magazines and dare the Weather to do its worst.

Ice Storm Mayhem. Aftermath.

Just keepin' it real

Day three of Winter Storm 2013 opened in near total, fogbound, silence, broken only by the distant fire of shotguns, as isolated homesteads fought off the few remaining liturgists that had survived yesterday's frenzied onslaught of ice-driven madness.

Rural Ministry

That was over, leaving an eerie scene of rural desolation and now the ice is melting, only, perhaps, to freeze again.

Left where they fell

We take stock, resolute. When the storm has passed, as one day it surely must, we will rebuild this town.

By the grace of God,

Ice Storm Mayhem. Day 2

There you go, shoot the ice off the Weber

This town is in the grip of Day Two of Winter Storm 2013, as ice-blind, directionless gangs of migrant farm workers run through the streets, looting, burning, cock fighting and gambling. Just to keep warm.

Just in case

Others are inside, cleaning guns, loading magazines, inventorying food supplies, and throwing last year's broken furniture on the fire.

It's all fun and games till the grid goes down, my friend.

I stand ready to bury the dead.

Forewarned is Forearmed.

That is all.

Winter Ice Storm Mayhem!

It's hotter now

Well done, Global Warming. You've made everything much colder now and here's why, thanks to GWB:

"Greenhouse gases cause longwave solar radiation to become trapped in the earth's atmosphere, making the earth much warmer. Which is why it's colder."

Carbon Footprint

It's a bit like our financial policy. You know, the more in debt we are the richer we become, but whatever the case, Texas is gripped in the throes of the worst ice storm since anyone can remember. That isn't necessarily too long, still, it's bad.

Ice Age

The trees are coated with ice which rattles and hisses as it's blown by the wind.

My guns are loaded.
