Mad Dogs And Englishmen

Mad dogs and Englishmen, what do they do? They go out in the noonday sun, or so it's claimed. To test this theory I loaded up the rig with a couple of rods and headed for the lake in the pyramid peak intensity of the Texan sun.

Were there any mad dogs at Soldiers Bluff? Yes there were, doing mad dog stuff on the opposite bank. Was there anyone else? No, there was not, only me, and it was starting to look like the old adage was true. Even the fish, our piscine adversary were lying low.

To test the theory further, I headed over to the other side of the dam, you know, follow the science. And guess what? It was deserted, no one was there, not even a mad dog, they were on the other side of the dam, crazily frolicking in the hot water.

No, there was just one Englishman with a US passport, some frozen shad, a few rods and the ovenlike heat of Texas in the midst of a regular day in June. Hot, so hot your eyelids are sweating while the fish, heatshocked, hang deep in cooler water.

It's a challenge and a good one. You've proved the old noonday axiom, LSP, I thought to myself, grimly tying on a #6 hook, will you get a fish? Serious question, and a seriously bad time to try your luck against our finned friends. You see, they just don't want to know, too busy sensibly sleeping out the heat.

Undeterred, I cast off with shad and worm. But where? Into the shade of the spillway's fishing pier, get the science? And lo and behold, reeled in Black Drum and Perch variants. What does this mean.

That no, fish as well as mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun, at least in Texas. Science has shown us this. Also, it may be hot as a preheating oven but get out there in the country and fish. Good for mind, body and soul.

It's All Great Until You Get Shot

There you are, living the dream, the dream of being a Marxist revolutionary fighting to break the chains of oppression and defeat the Man. It's just like 1917 but in Austin 2020, and you've got a semi-auto AK, which is kinda Russian or maybe Viet Cong, and a facemask and everything.

What. A. LARP. Hey, I'm not a cosplay Furry, I'm a Saturday night Marxist Revolutionary. Problem is, you start to believe the Live Action Role Play game you're acting out and, when a car crosses your Red Guard Roadblock you spring into action, you're in role. No Paseran, my friend.

Austin Commie Shot Dead

So you put 5 rounds through the imperialist pig's car, Ho Chi Minh style. Boom, take that, colonialist oppressor. But you miss, because you're not really a Red Guard or a member of the Durutti Column, you're just some guy having an Anarcho-Commie LARP.

At which point, the driver of the car winds down his window and shoots you. Stone cold dead. Then it's not a LARP, it's deadly serious, irretrievably.

You Selfish Fool

This may not be a popular POV with the few people who click through this shallow mind blog on the way to better things, but I feel sorry for Garrett Foster. It was all fun and games for him before it totally wasn't; things should never have gotten as out of hand as they did. And there's the real crime.

That the authorities in Austin would allow people to set up de facto road blocks, like what?!? and wander about with guns in a bizarre role playing exercise is inexcusable, more than that, it's a revolting, vote grabbing scandal. Net result? Some idiot got himself shot and now he's dead. Game over.

What would you have done if Garrett had fired into your vehicle? I'd have shot him too. Austin Democrats, you have blood on your hands.

ENDEX.

*****

See TGP for updates on this latest leftist idiocy. Garrett threatened the vehicle with his AK, the driver shot him dead and drove off as several LARPers  returned fire.

Frontier Justice

My Great, Great Grandmother was driving through Midland, Texas, sometime in the 1920s and stopped her car at an intersection. It was the oil boom and some 60 years off the War of Northern Aggression.

A man appeared at the door and demanded she give him her money. She reached inside the glove compartment of her vehicle and produced a revolver, which she pointed directly at that man's face. He ran.

They were made of stern stuff, those women.

I file this narrative under "frontier justice" in '20s Texas.

Don't Mess With Texas

Some people have this idea that Texas is sort of backward, because it's not like France, or Brussels, or Dalston, or something. That's ridiculous, we're an advanced country.

benchmarking to best practice
We have software.

workflow
We have hardware.

Sometimes the two go together for awesome effect. Apologies to The Fact Compiler.

God bless,
